John C Lilly 1960's Counterculture Dolphin Research Icon Collection of Photos

SKU: P101525-13

Collection of 44 photos featuring 1960's American Counterculture Icon and Dolphin Communication Scientist John C Lilly. A contemporary of counterculture thinkers including Timothy Leary and Ram Das, John C Lilly was renowned for his research in neurophysiology and consciousness and his use of psychedelics. In the 1950's, Lilly invented the first sensory deprivation tank, and his work in this field later inspired the 1980 movie Altered States. Lilly's interest in understanding dolphin intelligence and language led to his pioneering research in dolphin communication, which inspired the 1973 George C Scott movie The Day of the Dolphin. This archive of images ranges from 3.5 x 5 snapshot photos to 8x12 inches. Several photos feature broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite with John C. Lilly on a 1970's ocean expedition. This is an original photograph from our historic archives. We have a huge archive of original photographs, negatives, transparencies, posters, magazines and rare memorabilia that we are gradually releasing.
